Tamil actor Srinivasan, popularly known as 'Powerstar' among his fans, was arrested Friday in a cheating case, police said.
Srinivasan was arrested after a police complaint was filed by Andhra Pradesh resident P.S. Ranganathan alleging that the actor cheated him of Rs.50 lakh on the pretext of helping him secure a loan of Rs.20 crore.
"He (Srinivasan) promised Ranganathan that he would secure him a loan of Rs.20 crore if he paid him a commission of Rs.50 lakh. Neither did he help him with the loan nor did he return the money he had charged as commission. He kept on dodging whenever he was asked to repay the money," an official of the Central Crime Branch of police here said.
The actor has been remanded to custody, police said, adding he was found to have cheated some more persons. He was arrested by the Central Crime Branch of Chennai police.
Several such allegations have been made against Srinivasan, who is known for his work in Tamil films like "Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaya" and "Onbadhula Guru".
